Talent, she's-a no substitute for-a connections.
My pet rat Brian
joined a Dixieland jazz band while at college.
He fancied himself as a drummer.
They did a few gigs
outside New World supermarkets
and the Big Happy Tummy Maternity Emporium
then disbanded with $2.95 each
and a pensioner's bus pass.
Brian sensed he had a calling
in the drumming business
and turned to his godfather
Luigi 'The Violin' Linguini for advice.
"Heya, Brian... play-a for you godfather,
Brian drummed his heart out
using every Gene Krupa trick
he'd read about in magazines,
twirling the sticks, chewing gum
and shooting up.
capice?"
"Heya, Brian... not-a bad,
but not-a so good either.
How you t'ink you gonna make-a dis a-work?"
Brian confessed that
he hadn't thought much about it.
Maybe just roll along
and see what happened.
"No way, Brian!
You listen to-a you old godfather...
